About
Phelps Historical Museum
Nestled in the heart of Wisconsin’s Northwoods, the Phelps Historical Museum is dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history of Phelps and its surrounding communities. From its deep-rooted logging and fishing industries to the families and traditions that shaped the town, our museum offers a glimpse into the past through carefully curated artifacts, photographs, and personal stories.
Testimonials
My name is Abby Susor and I am an elementary school teacher at Phelps School District. Over the last several years we have been lucky enough to end our school year with a trip to the museum, which is a quick walk away from our school. This has been an invaluable educational resource for our elementary students over the past several years. Our annual field trips to the Phelps Museum have consistently provided engaging, hands-on learning experiences that complement our curriculum of Wisconsin History in meaningful ways. The museum’s exhibits are thoughtfully curated, offering students an interactive approach to the logging industry in our town, the school history as well as the town's buildings history. Each year, our students are excited to explore the collections, and learn more about their town's history.
William L. Parsons
(A little backstory for you...) As a kid, on summer vacations, he would sign up to volunteer at the museum. Later in his professional life, Will was granted an internship position in Washington. What helped give him an edge & hired was his volunteering during summer vacations and sharing the history of Phelps. Small towns are special places to people. (even in as big a place as Washington!)
For generations my family has said that Phelps is the center of the universe. It is the backdrop of countless memories and moments yet to be lived. The same holds true for the Phelps Histocial Museum. It is the embodiment of our town's legacy and future.
My internship there taught me the bedrock of customer service, voluntarism, philanthropy, and how to weave together the threads of a narrative. It propelled me from the museum walls to a decade of public service in the hallowed halls of the United States Senate. In so doing, it has given me more than I could ever repay.
I directly attribute my success in Washington to the Phelps Historical Museum, and those who make it what it is.
